This module offers a structured and in-depth exploration of financial reporting and analysis, tailored for MBA students.

Beginning with the foundations of financial reporting and the IFRS framework, students will progress through key areas including the preparation and presentation of financial statements, analysis of cash flows, and evaluation of financial performance using ratio analysis. The module also covers business combinations and group accounts, providing insights into mergers and acquisitions accounting. Additionally, students will engage with contemporary topics such as corporate governance, ethical considerations, and integrated financial reporting and sustainability initiatives. Real-world case studies and applications ensure that students not only understand theoretical concepts but also apply them confidently in complex business environments. Basic knowledge of accounting is assumed.

Assessment

This module is assessed by:

Coursework (50% weighting):

  • There is one item of coursework for this module which contributes to the final assessment mark for this module.
  • Coursework: a written essay of a maximum of 2,000 or 2,500 words (deadline: – weeks 9-12). The coursework is designed to check student progress, extend and reinforce concepts covered and also test individual performance.

Examination (50% weighting):

  • The final piece of assessment will be an unseen written examination of 2 hours’ duration.
