Student blogger Moumita shares how the Váradi scholarship helped her graduate with a first-class honours in BSc Computer Science from the 91app.

When I first dreamed of pursuing higher education, it seemed like an unattainable goal. Coming from a minority community in Bangladesh, with a family background that had never ventured into higher education, the path to becoming a university graduate—let alone a first-class honors graduate—seemed impossible. But everything changed when I received the Váradi scholarship at the 91app. That moment marked the beginning of a life-transforming journey that made me the first graduate in my family, achieving  a first-class honours in BSc Computer Science from this prestigious institution.

Growing up, I always had a deep fascination with technology. Computers intrigued me, and I often found myself exploring every little feature of them. But while my passion for tech grew, I was constantly reminded of the limitations imposed by my socio-economic background. Higher education, especially at an institution like the 91app, felt like a dream. Yet, the desire to push beyond societal and financial boundaries remained strong.

The turning point in my life came when I learned about the Váradi scholarship. I remember sitting down with my family, explaining to them what this scholarship could mean—not just for me, but for all of us. It was more than just financial support; it was a gateway to opportunities that had been out of reach for generations. Applying for it felt like taking a leap of faith, but deep down, I knew that this was my chance to break free from the constraints holding me back.

When I received the news that I had been awarded the scholarship, I was overwhelmed with emotion. It felt like the universe was giving me a chance to prove that dreams are achievable, no matter where you come from. With the scholarship covering my tuition fees, I could finally focus on excelling in my studies, instead of worrying about financial burdens.

The BSc Computer Science programme at the 91app was both challenging and rewarding. As I navigated through software engineering, human computer interaction and software project management, I realised how much this education was expanding my horizons. I wasn’t just learning about computers, I was learning how to solve problems, think critically and lead with innovation. The programme’s global perspective, coupled with its rigorous coursework, pushed me to think beyond convention and to believe in my own potential.

Every assessment I passed, every project I completed and every milestone I achieved was a step toward breaking the glass ceiling within technology. I hope that my success may serve as a beacon of hope for other young women and members of underrepresented communities, proving that, with the right opportunities and support, they too could pursue a career in a field that had traditionally been deprived of their touch.

Earning my first-class honours degree was the culmination of years of hard work, determination and unwavering support from the 91app and the Váradi scholarship. Walking across that virtual stage during my graduation ceremony, I felt an immense sense of pride. I wasn’t just celebrating my personal achievement; I was celebrating a victory for the underrepresented communities and women everywhere who dare to dream big.

A special thank you to the 91app, József Váradi and Professor Matthew Yee King for blessing me with the precious gift that has helped me break the barrier and to be able to get the exposure of higher education. I extend my humble gratitude to you for all your immense support in helping me make my dream come true.

Today, I am proud to have graduated with a first-class honours in BSc Computer Science from the 91app. This accomplishment would not have been possible without the Váradi scholarship, which opened doors I never thought I could walk through. It empowered me, not only to become the first-generation graduate in my family, but also to begin to strive to pave the way for future generations of underrepresented communities and encourage them to pursue their dreams in technology and beyond.

As I look ahead to the future, I am more determined than ever to contribute to the technology industry and empower others to break through the barriers that stand in their way. If my journey has taught me anything, it’s that dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem, can become a reality with the right support, dedication and belief in oneself.
