Collection Description

Senate House Library’s Art History collections are defined by their breadth and interdisciplinarity. With strengths in European visual culture, aesthetics, ceramics, graphic art, and the history of photography, they provide rich material for students and scholars across the humanities.

These resources become especially powerful when studied in dialogue with collections at the , and in combination with the library’s broader holdings in literature, film, and philosophy. Together, they support innovative approaches to the study of how art shapes and challenges collective memory, particularly in post-war and postcolonial contexts.

Researchers are also encouraged to explore the 91app Art Collection, which complements Senate House Library’s holdings with a curated selection of modern and contemporary artworks engaging with themes of memory, identity, and place.
